Every man has hesitated more than once over how to choose a suit. One buys the first one he sees as long as it is the right size and reasonably priced, another agonises over quality, colour and style...

If you truly care about choosing and wearing suits correctly and with style, the advice below is for you.

How to choose a suit with style

Style:

Generally, people do not choose a suit by fashion and season. Suits, whatever style they are designed in, all look elegant and luxurious as long as they suit the wearer's build.

Before deciding to have a suit made to order, take a careful look at your body. If you have a well-proportioned, tall build, every style suits you. But the classic choice remains a suit with a lightly nipped waist, broad shoulders and firm shoulder padding.

Big, heavy men, especially those with a "generous" seat measurement, should choose suits that are slightly loose in cut, made in a single layer of fabric with light shoulder padding.

Double-breasted jackets suit slim, thin men well, because the wearer looks fuller in them. Some people like to wear long jackets, others prefer short ones. However, the most elegant suit has a length equal to the fingertips when both arms hang straight.

Colour:

Fashion houses often present suits in bright colour combinations in their latest collections. In practice, however, classic suits with a conservative style remain the optimal choice for office fashion.

The most common colours of office suits still "run" from light grey to deep blue. In recent years, suits with subtle stripes have been revived and have become the choice of young people.

Black suits are well suited to galas, opening ceremonies, receptions...

At extremely luxurious and grand ceremonies, the proper choice is a tuxedo (white is ideal, if your build allows). Elegant tuxedos are also very suitable when you attend a party with ladies, because you will certainly stand out and make an impression.

What to wear with a suit jacket:

How to choose a suit with style

- Underneath the jacket you do not necessarily have to wear a shirt and tie, if you have no important work appointment that day or don't want to create a serious impression. You can perfectly well wear a plain-coloured T-shirt, with a crew neck or a polo collar, under the jacket.

- When you need to create a more luxurious and serious style, choose a light-coloured shirt to wear under the jacket. If your jacket is a single plain colour with no stripes, choose a shirt underneath with fine stripes to create an accent.

- The shirt cuff must show 1.5 to 2 cm below the jacket sleeve.

- You won't go wrong if you choose black, non-glossy leather shoes in a classic style and a black belt when wearing a suit.

- Socks must be the same colour as, or slightly darker than, the colour of the suit. Never, ever wear white socks! The sock must be tall enough that, whatever position you sit in, the person opposite cannot see your shin.

Wishing you a successful choice!
