Remote fitting is a way of taking measurements from a distance, in which you and a consultant work together through a detailed measurement guide and video call sessions to capture measurements that are accurate, complete and consistent before production begins. It is the foundation of a well-fitting, handsome garment — whether you are in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or abroad.

Four criteria for measuring remotely

For remote fitting to stand in for an in-person session, the measurement guide must meet four criteria:

  • The right points: locating the key measurement points precisely — a chest measurement off by a few centimetres changes the entire silhouette.
  • Accuracy: helping capture precise figures and minimising deviation.
  • Ease of use: instructions clear enough to follow at home, with no tailoring experience required.
  • Consistency: measuring standards aligned between you and Mon Amie, so both sides read every number the same way.

The value of accurate measurements

  • A better fit: precise measurements produce a clean, comfortable silhouette.
  • Time saved: fewer alterations, a shorter path to completion.
  • Optimised cloth: less fabric wasted, a more efficient cut and make.
  • A premium experience: a professional start builds trust from the very first exchange.

Behind these sit the trade's own reasons: every part of the garment is designed from true body measurements; the consultant needs a clear picture of your build, wearing habits and personal preferences; and above all, the risk of deviation when measuring remotely must be kept to a minimum — so you receive a professional tailoring experience wherever you are.

The 12 key measurement points for remote fitting

  1. Chest — measure around the fullest part of the chest, across the underarms.
  2. Waist — measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the midsection.
  3. Hips — measure around the fullest part of the hips, keeping the tape level.
  4. Shoulder width — measure in a straight line from one shoulder point to the other.
  5. Sleeve length — measure from the shoulder point over the elbow to the wrist bone, with the arm slightly bent.
  6. Jacket length — measure from the base of the back neck down to the desired length.
  7. Trouser length — measure from the waist down to the shoe heel or your preferred length.
  8. Thigh — measure around the fullest part of the thigh.
  9. Calf — measure around the fullest part of the calf.
  10. Neck — measure around the neck, close to its base.
  11. Wrist — measure around the wrist, close to the wrist bone.
  12. Height and weight — provide your height (cm) and weight (kg) so we can advise the right silhouette.

A general note: stand naturally upright, do not pull in your stomach, and measure twice to be sure of each figure.

Tips for accurate measuring at home

  • Prepare a soft tape measure and wear thin, well-fitted clothing.
  • Stand in front of a mirror, or better, have someone help you measure.
  • Keep the tape level — never too tight or too loose.
  • Photograph each measurement point so a Mon Amie consultant can cross-check.
  • Note any particular requests about fit and wearing preferences.

When remote fitting applies

This approach proves its worth for orders placed from a distance (clients in other provinces or overseas), in online video consultations, at the first stage of the made-to-measure process, and when welcoming new clients — making a professional impression from the very first exchange. Your measurements are kept on file at Mon Amie for life, so future orders only need updates for any changes rather than measuring from scratch.

A word from Mon Amie's artisans

In tailoring, measuring right is the first step to making right. However beautifully a craftsman can build a silhouette, if the input figures are wrong, every stage that follows must be corrected. That is why, when measuring remotely, Mon Amie never leaves it entirely to the client — a consultant always cross-checks every figure against photos and video before it goes into production.
