What is a Lookbook? Your Personal Style Direction Guide

A lookbook is a curated visual style guide: colour palette, silhouettes and outfits by occasion — your compass for dressing consistently and well.

A lookbook is a curated collection of images that defines a person's style direction: a core colour palette, garment silhouettes, outfits for specific occasions and the accessories that complete them. At Mon Amie, the lookbook is the final product of a style consultation — the document that helps you understand yourself, your lifestyle, your build and your taste, then distils all of it into a coherent, consistent way of dressing.

What a lookbook is built from

A valuable lookbook is not a folder of handsome pictures collected online. It is built from you, through four layers of analysis:

  • Self-understanding: your character, your habits and what you wish to express through clothing.
  • Taste direction: the style that suits your face, your build and the way you live.
  • Deliberate selection: the colours, fabrics, silhouettes and details that deliver the most value.
  • Image building: a consistent presence that elevates your confidence and personal standing.

This is why every client's lookbook is unique — two men of the same profession and the same age will still have two different lookbooks.

What sits inside a lookbook

The lookbook Mon Amie builds for a client — presented as a mood board — has three parts:

  • Colour palette: five to seven core tones that flatter your skin and fit your daily context, usually built around navy, grey, beige and earthy brown. This is the rulebook that lets every future purchase work with what you already own.
  • Core garments: the suit, blazer, shirt and trouser silhouettes chosen for your build — the skeleton of the wardrobe.
  • Accessories: watches, shoes, belts, glasses — the details that finish the picture and provide the accents.

When these three parts align, you can reach for any item in the wardrobe knowing it belongs to the same system.

How a lookbook takes shape in five steps

To arrive at a lookbook, a consultation at Mon Amie moves through five steps: listening to your goals and lifestyle; analysing your build, complexion and proportions; setting the style direction, colour palette and core silhouettes; suggesting outfits by occasion; and finally, planning — a prioritised list and a timeline for building the wardrobe over time.

That last step matters. A lookbook does not ask you to replace your entire wardrobe at once; it shows which pieces deserve investment first and which can wait.

Five common lookbook directions

After the consultation, a client's lookbook usually falls into one of five directions:

  • Power Executive: authoritative, strongly structured, dark tones — for leadership positions.
  • Smart Business: polished and flexible for the modern office.
  • Timeless Classic: classic, never dated, easy to wear for years.
  • Relaxed Elegant: elegant yet comfortable, in soft fabrics and lighter tones.
  • Modern Minimal: pared back, letting form and fabric speak instead of detail.

The lookbook then serves in many situations: as the foundation for your first tailoring consultation, for planning an executive wardrobe, for preparing a wedding look, or for building a long-term image. Each time you need another suit, the lookbook is the reference point that keeps the new piece in harmony with everything that came before.

Why have a lookbook before you commission a suit

The right direction saves you time and money, and ensures you always appear as the best version of yourself. Clothing communicates before you speak; a consistent image builds trust in business and in life. With a lookbook, you wear less but achieve more — and every tailoring decision becomes a deliberate investment rather than an impulse purchase. At Mon Amie, your lookbook and your measurements are kept on file for life, so the system grows with you over the years instead of starting over.

A word from Mon Amie's artisans

A good consultation does not force a client to become someone else; it helps him see himself more clearly — and the lookbook is the written record of that clarity. Mon Amie's artisans regard the lookbook as the drawing made before the cloth is cut: with a good drawing, every suit that follows takes its rightful place in the larger picture of your personal image.

If you would like a lookbook of your own before commissioning your next suit, book an appointment for a one-on-one consultation at one of Mon Amie's five showrooms in Ho Chi Minh City, and preview the tailoring process to see the full journey. Hotline 0888.111.118.
